Pet Friendly Camping in North Carolina

More and more people are bringing along the four legged members of their family on vacation each year.  While camping with your pet can be a lot of fun for both you and your furry friend, it is sometimes hard to find accommodations that are pet friendly.  With the growing trend in traveling with pets, many more overnight facilities are adopting pet friendly policies, including a number of hotels and many vacation cottages and homes.  Still, many vacationers prefer camping gear with their pets to enjoy the natural beauty of the outdoors.

Pet friendly camping in North Carolina is abundant throughout the state, especially in the 29 North Carolina state parks.  Whether you’re planning a trip to the beautiful Carolina coast, the scenic lakes of the Piedmont foothills, or the breathtaking peaks of the Appalachian Mountains, there are a variety of pet friendly campgrounds to choose from.

If you’re looking for a relaxing beach retreat with Fido, there are plenty of locations for pet friendly camping on the North Carolina coast.  Carolina Beach State Park offers an 83 site, pet friendly family campground.  Hike more than 6 miles of trails, enjoy fishing, or just play catch on the beach with the Coleman big red ball.  If you crave a primitive, island beach camping experience, Hammocks Beach State Park provides pet friendly camping sites.  You will have to bring your four legged friend to the island in your personal boat or through a marine taxi service though because pets are not allowed on the ferry.  There are also 3 KOA campgrounds along the North Carolina coast that are pet friendly.

Enjoy hiking, boating, and fishing, as well as a bit of natural history , with your canine friend at the Cliff of the Neuse State Park’s pet friendly camping area in North Carolina.  At this state park, pets are not allowed in the swimming area or bathhouse areas.  If you’re canoeing with your dog, the Lumber River State Park offers miles of scenic water trails, as well as 9 primitive, pet friendly campsites.

Crowders Mountain State Park also offers pet friendly camping in North Carolina at their secluded, backcountry tent camping sites.  After a day of hiking the numerous trails in the park or fishing on the 9 acre lake in a rented canoe, you and your four legged friend can take the mile long trail to the camping area and relax in the tranquil Carolina foothills air.

If a pet friendly camping trip in the beautiful North Carolina Mountains is what you desire, Stone Mountain State Park is a great destination.  Enjoy miles of scenic hiking trails, unsurpassed fishing, and cultural exhibits as well.  If you’re camping with your pet, you can stay in your tent or RV at the park’s family campground with hookups and hot showers or at one of the six backcountry campsites.  There are four pet friendly KOA campgrounds in the North Carolina mountain region as well.

Pet friendly camping in North Carolina is easy to find, affordable, and very enjoyable.  Whether you’re visiting the mountains, the sea, or anywhere in between, camping with your pet is fun in North Carolina!
