Up until just a few years ago, cornhole was nothing more than a dirty word. Lawn Darts, Bocce Ball, and Badminton were all sleepy games that maybe were setup at a family reunion or a block party. In the last few years though, we have seen cornhole go from a random obscure game to a national obsession. The large part of the growth appears to have been with college kids and younger adults who can't get enough of the game. Now, just a short time later you are seeing things that are indicative of a real actual honest to gosh sport such as TV appearances, tournaments, and even movies. It's safe to say the cornhole game has come a long way!
The gear that's required for the game is pretty simple, just 8 bags and two corntoss boards. You place the boxes around 27 feet apart from the front and the opponents take turns to try and get their bag in the hole of the opposing box. Don't let the simple cornhole rules fool you though, people still spend hours and hours after they've learned the game to hone and sharpen their skills. The game has grown so much that I would bet that if you walk into any event around the midwest or walk through any midwester town, that you will see the game being played by a surprising amount of people. The game is especially popular with college students and younger adults. That's not too surprising given that its one of the few backyard sports that allows you to carry a drink with you while you play. Perfect for any college kid!
Prior to just a few years ago, it was nearly impossible to find cornhole bags anywhere locally or even on the internet. And if you could find them, they were expensive. That left you relying on someone that you knew that knew how to sew and was ok with making cornhole bags for you and your friends. Now, they are all over the internet, farmers markets, and many local vendors are starting to carry the game after demand from their customers. There are other cool innovations recently such as lighting for your game for nighttime play as well as scoring systems so you can stay out of arguments with your opponents. That is one good thing about the spread of cornhole throughout the country. You can now get better prices, more selection, and better service since there are more people selling the gear.
Businesses are also finding that gear can be an great way to promote their brand and thank their customers. Because of the demand for this, cornhole dealers have started to offer boards and
cornhole bags customized with the company logo. When you think about this, its really a great move. The company gets to give a gift that is unique and can be used for a long time. It's definitely something that is more thoughtful than a gift basket and something that will have a lot more longevity with their client. In the age where customers are used to getting gifts of some sort from their vendors, giving a thoughtful gift like that can really distance yourself from your competition and stick out in the minds of your customers.
So, are you going to catch the craze of cornhole? If it hasn't arrived yet in your area, then maybe you can be the trend setter. If you aren't quite convinced and you want to try the game out, you don't have to spend a lot of money to get the boards, you can simply go online and find some cornhole dimensions so you can build your own. With a little bit of carpentry skills and some spare time, you can have your set built and be ready to spread cornhole all around the area. It has proven time and time again that Americans are always up for a fun game that the whole family can enjoy. Be the first to spread the word in your town!
